Sunny View Lutheran Home Joins Front Porch
Posted on: 01/29/2003

BURBANK, Calif -- Front Porch, southern California's largest nonprofit provider of senior living communities and skilled nursing facilities, announced today the addition of a new affiliate, Sunny View Lutheran Home, located in Cupertino, Calif. The affiliation brings to the Front Porch family Sunny View Manor, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), and Sunny View West, an affordable housing community for seniors.

The affiliation marks the cornerstone of growth into the northern California region, and brings the total number of retirement communities under the Front Porch umbrella to 13. Front Porch was formed in 1999 with the merging of California Lutheran Homes and Community Services, FACT Retirement Services and Pacific Homes Corporation to create a progressive new senior service system that responds to the needs of individuals within a community setting.

Becoming an affiliate allows Sunny View to gain strength in areas such as accounting, human resources, public relations and information technology-areas in which many nonprofits are weak. Yet the Front Porch system is unique in that it also allows and even encourages each affiliate to thrive as its own entity, preserving its own history, personality and constituency.

"By working as a support system, we are able to offer each community the highest level of expertise, the best systems and the latest innovations in senior care while strengthening our not-for-profit heritage," says Front Porch Co-CEO Mort Swales. Gary Wheeler, Front Porch co-CEO, adds, "As we join diverse groups together, we get a more complete, better-managed organization that reaches out to serve more people with better resources."

Ron Zielske, president and CEO of Sunny View Lutheran Home, says that the resources Sunny View will gain through its relationship with Front Porch are invaluable. "The Front Porch support system allows Sunny View communities to gain strength through added management resources that will help us to focus on our mission of serving residents with the highest regard for quality."

Common to both Front Porch and Sunny View are the values and standards by which they measure success: services of the highest quality, customer satisfaction, resident dignity and holistic attention to each individual served. Front Porch programs that support these values and standards include the Front Porch Ethics Service, quality assurance, corporate compliance, social accountability and Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC) management.
