NASHP Report Assesses State Efforts to Assist UninsuredA major new report from the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) examines state efforts over the past 25 years to improve access to the uninsured and finds that, absent these efforts, millions of Americans would be without insurance. NCAL Publishes Annual State Regulatory ReviewThe National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) recently published the Assisted Living State Regulatory Review 2000, a source of new information on the ever-increasing and changing regulations of assisted-living facilities at the state level. Healthcare Providers Web Savvy, but Underutilize InternetSmall and mid-sized healthcare providers are using the Internet at a growing rate with business research the primary use for the majority of these companies, according to the latest survey of business trends by the George S. May International Co., a Park Ridge, Ill.-based management-consultant firm. The study shows that e-commerce (transacting business on the web) is being accomplished by half of the businesses of this size. Survey results also show that 90 percent of mid-size and small businesses use the web for business research and obtaining information, but the number that use the Internet for business transactions drops to 53 percent, with 55 percent using the net for purchasing and another 50 percent for selling. However, while 87 percent consider themselves to be very or some degree computerized, almost 20 percent say they have little or no use for computers.
